The Carolina Panthers contacted Heritage Printing & Graphics requesting a BIG Ticket be made for Make a Wish Foundation recipient, Noah Hays. We were more than happy to manufacture the promotional prop for the Panthers, Heritage has a wonderful working relationship with both professional Charlotte franchises; Carolina Panthers and Charlotte Hornets.
Following is an article about Noah published by WCNC, a Charlotte news organization: http://www.wcnc.com
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — It started as a shoulder pain earlier this summer for 16-year-old Noah Hays.
“He had gone to the gym and was playing basketball and said he felt something funny, so we kind of just blew it off as an athletic injury and he would be fine,” Noah’s mom Gina Cugliari said. It didn’t seem like anything to worry about, especially since Noah is an otherwise healthy high school student and varsity lacrosse player.
But several doctor visits revealed it was much more serious. “I didn’t think it was real. I just didn’t think I’d be the one to get cancer,” Noah said.
Noah was diagnosed with stage 4 rhabdomyosarcoma– a rare form of aggressive cancer, only diagnosed about 350 times a year in the U.S. “That was heartbreaking. Yeah, my heart broke, because I kept thinking ‘I wish it was me.’“ Cugliari said. But if you’re looking for a family feeling sorry for themselves, this isn’t them. “We’re just going to stay positive, because there’s no other option, for us, there’s no other option,” she said.
Noah began aggressive chemotherapy treatments the day after he was diagnosed. His friends and family have rallied around him, inspiring the hashtag #NoahStrong. His Facebook page has more than 1600 likes, and a GoFundMe page has raised nearly $22,000. “It definitely makes me feel special that everyone’s so nice and supportive,” Hays said.
He knows it’s going to be a long road, but he’s not getting ahead of himself. “I just take it one day at a time,” he said. “I can’t look into the future, I’ve always got to look at the next day.”
The family anticipates chemotherapy several times a week for the next year, which will add up quickly. To help with their medical expenses, click here.
