Greater Washington Community Foundation Wall Wraps and Dimensional Lettering in Washington, DC | Project Spotlight
Heritage Signs & Displays produced and installed workplace graphics for the Greater Washington Community Foundation’s 5,669-square-foot headquarters at 1750 H Street NW in Washington, DC. Wall wraps, dimensional lettering, wall displays, and vinyl graphics bring the organization’s mission and regional identity into reception, hallway, open office, and employee spaces throughout the workplace.
Founded in 1973, the Greater Washington Community Foundation has spent more than five decades connecting philanthropy with communities across Washington, DC, Montgomery County, Prince George’s County, and Northern Virginia. The Community Foundation is the region’s largest local funder and has invested more than $1.8 billion since its founding.
The organization’s identity reflects that regional focus. Four leaf-like forms within its visual identity represent the four communities it serves: the District of Columbia, Montgomery County, Prince George’s County, and Northern Virginia. Environmental concepts developed by Michael Marshall Design extended that identity into the physical workplace through messaging, typography, color, and dimensional forms. Heritage translated the approved concepts into finished printed and fabricated elements for the H Street office.

At reception, dimensional lettering presents the Foundation’s message, “Igniting the Power of Philanthropy for Greater Washington.” Positioned near the entrance, the statement introduces the organization’s purpose as visitors arrive and connects the workplace with language the Foundation uses to describe its role throughout the region.
The visual story continues into the hallways through layered dimensional forms that draw from the Foundation’s established identity. Petal-like elements project from the wall at varying depths, while dimensional lettering adds another layer to the display. Selected components were mounted so they can be changed in the future, giving the Foundation flexibility to update portions of the installation without replacing the entire display.
A second hallway treatment uses dimensional lettering at multiple depths to create a different visual experience while maintaining continuity with the surrounding workplace. In the open office, cut vinyl lettering provides a simpler expression of the identity suited to a shared employee space.
The break lounge introduces a larger field of color and imagery through a full wall wrap. The application gives the employee-focused space its own character while remaining connected to the visual language used elsewhere in the office. A dimensional “Community” display reinforces an idea central to both the Foundation’s name and its work throughout the region.
Heritage conducted an on-site survey, reviewed field conditions, developed production files and three-dimensional mockups from the approved concepts, produced the printed and dimensional elements, and completed professional installation. The mockups helped stakeholders evaluate depth and placement before production, while the site survey allowed individual applications to respond to the actual walls, sightlines, and architectural conditions within the headquarters.
Michael Marshall Design had previously worked with the Greater Washington Community Foundation on branding and environmental graphics for its 50th anniversary, providing additional continuity between the organization’s public storytelling and the visual experience of its workplace.
The completed Washington, DC office brings the Greater Washington Community Foundation’s mission into everyday view. From the “Igniting the Power of Philanthropy” reception message to dimensional hallway displays and employee spaces, the environment connects the organization’s regional purpose with the place where its team collaborates, welcomes donors and partners, and advances philanthropy throughout Greater Washington.
